EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR therapy is a structured therapy protocol that can support people in feeling less activation when then recall or think about difficult past events. EMDR focuses on all the residual impacts of traumatic events including effects on the body, thought process, emotions, and behaviors. EMDR can support people in feeling a greater sense of cohesion internally. This is not a modality where you simply tell the story of what happened in the past, though that may be part of the treatment.

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to support a person to develop more ability to stay present while experiencing big emotions and physical sensations.

The Process

The EMDR process involves a thorough history taking, a process of developing adequate resources internally and externally to support strength needed to address past difficulties. During the actual “reprocessing” of the difficult past events, the client and therapist remain collaborative. The pace of the client is always the most important factor.
