FAQ

What can i expect from a therapy session?

I structure therapy sessions to meet the individual needs of each client. I will take time in the beginning to learn about you and your goals and establish safety. If appropriate and you are interested, we may use applied mindfulness to explore current and past challenges. I may invite you to notice your physical body and symptoms and it’s relationship to emotions, thoughts, and healing.

How many sessions will i need to attend?

Therapy is a highly individual process. We will meet as long as we mutually feel the sessions are beneficial in addressing your goals.

what is the hakomi method?

The Hakomi method is an approach to therapy developed in the 1980s by Ron Kurtz. The Hakomi method invites clients to use mindfulness to explore the interconnection between thoughts, emotions, memories, and current patterns to reveal underlying core beliefs. It is an efficient and elegant method of therapy that helps clients to resolve long standing challenges. For more information visit: http://www.hakomica.org

What is EMDR Therapy? Is it appropriate for me?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy that can support some people in reducing the level of activation related to specific memories and sometimes their related memories. The process is structured and involves the use of Dual Attention Stimulus to support the client in staying present while accessing the physical, emotional, sensational, visual and belief network associated with a memory. My training is in a somatic and attachment focused use of EMDR.

what is the Re-creating the self model?

The Re-Creating the Self (RCS) model was developed by Jon Eisman and shares elements of the Hakomi method. RCS assumes that we each have an organic, whole self and that due to various types of trauma and wounding we develop protective, fragmented self-states. These self-states are adaptive but they frequently limit our ability to participate in our lives and relationships in fulfilling ways. RCS helps clients to mindfully notice their self-states and live more fulfilling lives.
